Cruising is a fantastic way to vacation. You can visit many wonderful places and only have to unpack once. But, yes bad things can happen on a crusie. Just like anywhere else, you need to be responsible for your surroundings. The ships are designed so you can’t just fall overboard, unless you are doing something stupid (many of the railings are almost chest high). There can be bad people on cruises, you need to use the same safety you would use going to a club or bar. I have been on many, both with and without kids and have never felt unsafe, for any of us. Have fun and be smart, you’ll have the time of your life.

Yes, but don’t dwell on that just have a good time.

Fire, disease, pirates. But then its like flying. The odds of something not fun happening are very small. Probably safer than driving.

I think you’ve seen the titanic movie. The ships nowadays are very safe. The coast guard checks them out all the time. And yes, they now have plenty of life boats. I’ve heard of people falling overboard, but don’t believe it. It’s not possible to “fall” overboard. You would have to climb up a wall or something like that to fall in. I have seen people die, but that was from like old age or an heart attack, same as at home. I think the worst thing that can happen to you is if you don’t make it back to the ship on time after a shore excursion, then you have to find a way to make it to the next port and meet up with the ship. So don’t be late and don’t worry, just have a blast.

Well, anything can happen anywhere. But in terms of safety, the cruise industry has been top notch in terms of making sure everyone is safe.

As you are on the boat, they do an emergency drill where passengers go to “muster” stations with life jackets on so that they would know which life boats to go to in the event of an emergency.

All of these rules have been incorporated thanks to the Titanic. And unlike 1912 where one had to rely on looking out with a binocular, cruise ships have radars (above and underwater) that can detect any sort of barriers.

If there is anything that might be of concern, it should be keeping your valuables safe as well as making sure foods are well prepared. There have been cases of “Norwalk” viruses.

Outside of that…you won’t go down with the ship.

    lol it’s jen bunnEy.

Well, like anything else, bad things can happen. I try not to think about that, though. I’ve been on six and I’m only 15, still alive and well, ive never had a problem on a cruise ship. obviously youve heard about the titanic & there is also disease. dont be scared though you will have SO much fun!

Of course bad things can happen, they can happen anywhere, but do they happen regularaly, no. Can a plane crash, can an amusement park ride jump it’s track, can a car crash, all can happen, but the odds are against it happening.

If something does happen, it all depends on how you handle it, just relax and roll with any punches. But don’t expect it to happen either.

well they start out sending you to the buffet to eat and when they will send everyone for a lifeboat drill that EVERYONE is required to go to, so in the event of a real emergency you will know what to do, and the likely hood of need this in very very low. in reality the worst thing you could do is stay to long on one to the ports (like at “Carlos and Charles” in Cozumel)

in the end just relax and enjoy, don’t do anything foolish and don’t wander too far from the tourist stops and you will have great time

  • DCDARLING says:

Bad things can happen to you crossing a street, you dont need to go on a cruise for that to happen. You are safe on a cruise ship -just use your head, dont run off with strange boys and be street smart.
